Port Kavkaz posts a 18.68% volume drop, to 2,55 million tons
Cargo throughput of the port of Kavkaz in January-May 2011 decreased by 18.68% compared with the same period of 2010, to 2,55 million tons, the Port Authority reported.
In the reporting period exports fell by about 1% to 1,52 million tons, transshipment of exports at the outer anchorage decreased by 21.6% to 937.54 tons, imports slumped by more fourfold to 100,600 tons. The volume of sulfur handled at the anchorage fell by 13.7% to 572,240 tons, of fuel oil - by 5.7% to 365,300 tons.
There were also fewer ships handled at the port in the five-month period, 815 vessels (-20%).
Port of Kavkaz is situated between the Azov and the Russian Black Sea coast. The 4.5-m-deep harborage allows handling river boats and seagoing ships (at anchorage). The port specializes in handling dry bulk cargo (mineral fertilizer, concentrates of various ores, grain), general cargo, timber, and containers. In 2010, cargo throughput of Port of Kavkaz totaled 9,65 million tons.
