Ras Laffan Port receives 5,000th LNG vessel call
A significant milestone was reached today when the LNG tanker 'Al-Ghuwairiya' berthed at Ras Laffan to load her LNG cargo bound for Canaport, Canada, becoming the 5,000th LNG vessel call at the port, Seatrade Asia reported.
At a special ceremony to mark the occasion, Ras Laffan Industrial City (RLC) director Mr Abdulaziz Al-Muftah said it had taken about 15 years to reach this milestone but now with full production of 77m tones per annum from Qatargas and RasGas, the 10,000 LNG vessel milestone will be achieved in about 5 years time.
The Qatargas chartered vessel 'Al-Ghuwairiya' is one of the new generation Q-Max LNG tanker able to load a full LNG cargo of 260,000m3. The vessel is owned by the Qatar Gas Transport Company (Nakilat), which owns the world's largest LNG fleet of 54 vessels of varying sizes - including Q-Flex and Q-Max sizes which were specially constructed to ship Qatar’s LNG to the world markets - representing 16% of the global LNG tonnage.
LNG is produced by the two major Qatar Petroleum (QP) joint venture industries, Qatargas and RasGas, which are both based in RLC, which is managed and administered by Qatar Petroleum. Mr Al-Muftah stressed at the ceremony that this "milestone in the delivery of clean energy to the world" had been achieved through strong collaboration between all the different partners involved.
