By January 2009, Port Fleet CJSC will complete construction of a plant for treatment of oily waters in the Big Port of St. Petersburg, Evgeny Ryaby, Director on Ecology and Major Construction of Port Fleet CJSC, told at a Round Table meeting “Port Service as an Instrument to Improve Port Attractiveness” held by PortNews IAA on October 9 within the framework of international exhibition Transtek.
Ecomarine-3 plant is to accept, treat and process oily waters containing up to 20% of oil products. The plant is capable of treating 15,000 m3 of bilge water, which is 3 times as much as Ecomarine-1 which currently operates in the port of St. Petersburg. According to Mr. Ryaby, Ecomarine-1 commissioned in 2002 is not enough during peak-load periods in the port. The new station is to be introduced in view of further increase of cargo flow in the port.
Ecomarine-3 is supposed to be located at Bely island within the Big Port of St. Petersburg. The leaseholder invested some RUR 5 mln into the berth reconstruction.
