Throughput of Tallinn port down 23.7% to 21.8 mln t in Jan-Sep 08

In January-September, 2008, the port of Tallinn handled 21.862.1 million tonnes of cargo (-23.7%, year-on-year), the port’s materials read.

In the reported period, transshipment of liquid bulk cargo amounted to 15.258 million tonnes (-12.2%), general cargo – 469,900 tonnes (-25.9%), dry cargo – 2.248.1 million tonnes (-67%). The port’s container throughput amounted to 137,914 TEU (+0.7%). Transshipment of ro-ro cargo totaled 2.765.6 million tonnes (+3.7%).

In January-September, 2008 export-import transshipment of foreign trade cargo amounted to 17.049.4 million tonnes (-30.1%) including 2.254.3 million tonnes of export (+14.1%), 14.795 million tonnes of transit (-33.9%). Internal export-import amounted to 4.684.9 million tonnes (+12.6%) including 2.790.6 million tonnes of import (+0.4%), 1.894.4 million tonnes of transit (+37.1%).

Commercial Seaport of Tallinn is a large cargo and passenger seaport located at the southern shore of the Tallinn Bay. It was founded in 1219. Tallinn is the third largest port of the Baltic Sea after St. Petersburg and Primorsk. The port consists of 5 port ones: Muuga, Old City Harbour, Paljassaare, Paldiski South and Saaremaa.
