Pirate attacks against Maersk Line vessels

Сontainer carriers have been the target of several Somali pirate attacks over the last couple of weeks. At least three container vessels have been attacked, but they have managed to ward off the pirates. The Danish Georg Mærsk and Charlotte Mærsk and the Taiwanese owned Ever Unicorn have all reported attacks.
On October 9 the NATO ministers of defence agreed to fight piracy off Somalia.
”At the request of the United Nations, Ministers agreed that NATO will contribute to deter piracy in the waters off the coast of Somalia. In this context, NATO will provide a number of ships from the Alliance’s Standing Naval Maritime Group to patrol the waters off the coast of Somalia and escort ships carrying food supplies for the World Food Programme. In this mission, NATO will also coordinate with other organizations, including the European Union.”, NATO stated.
