China is eyeing transportation of transit cargo via the port of Ust-Luga to Europe, Aleksand Misharin, deputy Minister of Transport told journalists at the 12th meeting of Russia-China subcommittee on transport cooperation held on October 10 in St. Petersburg.
The parties also discussed the prospects of cargo transportation by ferry service between Ust-Luga and Kaliningrad. According to Mr. Misharin, Chinese delegation headed by the Minister of Railways is interested in the project as “a good opportunity for transit transportation of cargo from China to Europe”. According to the project, cargo is to be delivered to Ust-Luga by railway and then by ferry to Kaliningrad for further distribution in Europe.
