The terminal project aims, inter alia, to meet the growing demand for container traffic, reduce the waiting time for ships, and ease pressure on the existing terminals.
The King kicked off, afterwards, the development works of the northern road of the Casablanca port, worth some MAD 110 mln (about $ 13 mln).
This road, to be operational by April 2010, is meant to facilitate access to the port, ensure a better flow of the facility's traffic road, and ensure a better distribution of traffic between the various gates of the port.
The port of Casablanca is one of the largest ports in Africa. It handles a traffic of over 26,3 million tons per annum, that is 36% of the national traffic. With an area of 605 hectares, the facility can accommodate and treat more than 35 ships at the same time.
