Fjord Line leaves Kristiansand

The shipping company Fjord Line will discontinue its operations from Kristiansand next year. The port management in Kristiansand demands that Fjord Line must offer year-round ferry service if the company wants to use the port – as a consequence the company now leaves the port. The discontinuance of service will mean that a total of 26 Fjord Line employees, those in Kristiansand and those onboard the HSC Fjord Cat, will be laid-off.
At a Board of Directors’ meeting in Kristiansand on October 20, Fjord Line resolved to file a complaint with The Norwegian Coastal Administration (Kystverket) and to make preparations for potential legal action against the Port Authority.
”Our understanding is that Kristiansand Harbour lacks the authority to block us out and we are glad that the case is also being taken into consideration by the city council, says Chairman of the Fjord Line Board of Directors, Peter Frølich, in a comment.
As a result of the discontinuation of the route, the high-speed catamaran, the HSC Fjord Cat, until further will be kept in storage at Marvika in Kristiansand.
Recently Fjord Line decided to continue to sail between Kristiansand, Norway, and Denmark during the summer season. The company also decided that, due to rough winter weather conditions and lower customer demand, it is not feasible to sail on the Kristiansand-Denmark route during the winter months.
