Eleven workers were killed and 12 injured when a crane container carrying at a construction site in southwest China fell to the ground, the Xinhua news agency said on Wednesday.
The accident occurred at 10:00 p.m. (01:00 GMT) on Tuesday in a mountainous area near Chongqing, where a bridge is being built. The container carrying 23 workers fell after a steel cable supporting it snapped, the agency said.
Nine people died at the scene and two others died later in hospital. Eleven of the injured are in a critical state.
The cause of the accident is being investigated.
