A Ka-27 helicopter of the Northern Fleet’s search and rescue service evacuated the injured sailor from the Bereg Nadezhdy reefer cargo ship thrown ashore in the Barents Sea, the Russian Navy press office said.
The seafarer was taken to a Severomorsk-based hospital for treatment.
The reefer vessel was thrown ashore near the east coast of the island Kildin Tuesday morning by the storm that passed through the Barents and White seas.
There is another dry bulk carrier Kapitan Kuznetsov reported missing in the White Sea. An IL-38 maritime patrol aircraft from Severomorsk base will be engaged in the 6-hour search to locate the vessel in distress in the White Sea waters. The last radio contact with the bulker was this early morning (2 a.m., Moscow Time).
