Admiralty shipyards float today Arctic tanker "Mikhail Ulyanov"

Federal Unitary Enterprise «Admiralty shipyards» holds on Friday a solemn ceremony of floating a new Arctic tanker "Mikhail Ulyanov" of Р-70046 project constructed by order of OJSC "Sovcomflot".
According to the enterprise’s press-service, a vessel of deadweight of 70,000 tons, constructed by «Admiralty shipyards» by order of OJSC "Sovcomflot", is purposed for shuttle transportation of oil from "Prirazlomnoe" deposit in the Pechora Sea to transshipment terminals near Murmansk. The tanker is capable to break ice of 1.2 m thick and thus to speed of 3 knots.
The tanker will be commissioned in 2009.
Tankers of Р-70046 project are the largest vessels ever constructed by «Admiralty Shipyards». The length of "Mikhail Ulyanov" is 260 m, width – 34 m, draft – 13.6 m.
Federal Unitary Enterprise «Admiralty shipyards» is the oldest ship-building shipyard of Russia. Modern «Admiralty shipyards» are engaged in design, manufacture and modernization of vessels of merchant fleet, and also construction and modernization of military ships.
“Sovcomflot” is one of the five largest tanker companies in the world; it owns 128 vessels of total deadweight over 9.1 mln tons; its on-going ship-building programme includes 30 vessels of total deadweight of 2.9 mln tons. The net profit of "Sovcomflot" amounted $243.2 mln in the first half of 2008.
