Australia Gladstone port's Nov alumina throughput down 24% on year
Australia's Gladstone port in the state of Queensland handled 344,936 mt of outbound alumina shipments in November through eight vessels, statistics published Wednesday by the local port authority indicated, Platts reports.
Of these, 143,523 mt were domestic shipments, while 76,970 mt were bound for Russia, 26,250 mt to New Zealand and 98,193 mt to the Middle East.
The November throughput was up 21.79% from October, but represented a decline of 23.55% from November 2010.
Gladstone port facilitates alumina shipments from two refineries in Queensland that have a total production capacity of 5.25 million mt/year.
Queensland Alumina - a joint venture between Rio Tinto and Rusal -- can produce 3.95 million mt/year at Gladstone, while Rio Tinto's wholly owned plant at Yarwun can make 1.4 million mt/year.
