Russia and Finland to cooperate in shipbuilding
Finnish Minister of Economic Affairs Jyri Jukka Häkämies and Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Viktor Khristenko signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation of the two countries in shipbuilding and manufacturing of marine equipment, Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade said.
The MOU is aimed at creation of a political framework for co-operation of Finnish and Russian companies in the construction of vessels and equipment to be operated in the Arctic conditions. This will facilitate the implementation of joint projects between shipbuilding companies and research organizations. The document stipulates the information exchange in the field of shipbuilding and marine equipment.
Following the signing ceremony the Ministry of Transport of Russia announced a EUR 76m order for multipurpose ice-class rescue ship awarded to Yantar Shipyard and Artech Helsinki Shipyard, a joint venture of USC and STX Finland.
Finland expects the agreement will ensure more shipbuilding orders for the country’s shipyards.
