CILT calls for expansion of Takoradi, Tema ports
The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), has called for the urgent development and expansion of the Takoradi and Tema ports to meet the increasing demand on the facilities, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation reports.
The President of the Association, Cletus Kuzagbe, said as a result of the current high economic growth, the country is experiencing, it requires that government moves quickly to translate plans for port development or expansion into action.
Mr Kuzagbe was speaking at the Institute’s 2011 Annual General Meeting.
He said the increase in activities by 15 percent at the ports has not only created cargo congestion but also huge vehicular traffic.
He expressed worry that plans to build an inland port at Boankra, which has been on the drawing board for many years has not been realised.
At the AGM, the institute elected new executives to steer the affairs of the Ghana branch for the next two years.
