Asia - Europe G6 boxshipping mega-alliance formed
In the latest consolidation on the Asia - Europe trades the six members of the Grand and The New World alliances are coming together as the G6 alliance, Seatrade Asia online reports. The new alliance comprising APL, Hyundai Merchant Marine, and Mitsui OSK Lines, Hapag-Lloyd AG, Nippon Yusen Kaisha and Orient Overseas Container Line will operate over 90 vessels on nine Asia - Europe services.
“This is a milestone agreement that significantly improves service coverage in the Asia-Europe market,” member carriers said in a statement. “We will offer sailing frequencies and direct coverage that compete with anyone in the market.”
The alliance is scheduled to begin operation in April next year.
The mega-alliance follows Maersk Line’s daily Asia - Europe service earlier this year, and latterly the alliance on the trade between its nearest rivals in size terms, CMA CGM and Mediterranean Shipping Co.
