Jurong Shipyard breaks ground on first overseas integrated new yard facility
Sembcorp Marine’s subsidiary Jurong Shipyard has broke ground on Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz, the group’s first overseas integrated new yard facility in the state of Espirito Santo, Brazil, Offshore reports.
The 82.5-hectare shipyard in the municipal of Aracruz is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2014. Preliminary projection of the development costs is estimated to be around $550 million.
Planned shipyard facilities include a 120 m x 380 m drydock, a one-km berthing quay as well as ancillary piping facilities, and steel fabrication workshops. Services at Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz will include construction of drillships, semisubmersible and jackup rigs, platforms, supply vessels, the integration of FPSOs and topside modules fabrication, in addition to the traditional activities of drilling rig repairs, ship repairs, and modification/upgrade works.
