St. Petersburg dam prevents flooding of the city
The St. Petersburg flood defense complex on December 26, 2011 prevented the 310-th St Petersburg flood, the Ministry of Regional Development said. The city authorities ordered to close all of the navigation passes and culverts from Dec. 26 to Dec.27.
This has helped prevent possible damage, which could reach RUB 25 billion. The flood waters could sweep historical monuments, buildings, shipyards, schools, hospitals and the city utilities on the territory, making up one fifth of St. Petersburg and populated by 1.5 million people, the Ministry said.
Could be knocked out of heat and energy of the city. Recall Day December 27 St. Petersburg dam was closed again in connection with the prediction of flooding.
