Port of Hong Kong traffic down 0.3% in Jan-Feb

Shipments containers through the Port of Hong Kong in January-February slightly fell 0.3 percent year-over-year to 3.61 million TEUs, the Port Authority statistics said.

The two-month volume of export, import and empty containers includes throughput of Kwai Tsing, which demonstrated a 3.6% to 2.76 million TEUs. Other terminals handled 850 TEUs, down 11.1 percent from the 2011 period’s figures.

Port of Hong Kong is one of the busiest ports in the world. In 2010, Hong Kong port's container trade totaled 23.69 million TEUs. The port is able to handle 456,000 ships a year.
