Cargo throughput at the port of Nakhodka in the first quarter of 2012 increased by 9.6% from a year ago, to 4.9 million tons, the Nakhodka Port Authority said.
Oil product exports were up 1.4% year-on-year to 1.68 mln tons. Shipments of ferrous and nonferrous metals surged by 35.8% and 10.2% from a year ago to 1.14 million tons and to 140,000 tons, accordingly. Export of anthracite rose 7.6% to 784,500 tons. Handling of timber cargo fell 11.1% to 177,400 tons. Container throughput increased by 5% to 436,000 TEUs.
In March, the port saw 1.42 million tons of different cargoes, a 6.2-percent gain year-over-year. Monthly volume of petroleum products was unchanged as compared with last year’s figures (557,200 tons). The volume of ferrous metals grew by 14.9% (370,900 tons), of non-ferrous metals - by 34.1% (55,000 tons). Handling of anthracite increased by 11.3% to 353,100 tons. During the month, shipments of timber cargo declined by 21.2% to 59,900 tons, while container traffic soared 40% to 78,000 TEUs.
Russian Port of Nakhodka is located in the northern Bay of Nakhodka. The year-round navigable Port is connected via Trans-Siberian Railroad with the railway network of Russia and Western Europe. In 2011, Port of Nakhodka handled 14.98 million tons (vs 15.32 mln a year earlier).
