Evergreen's 7th 7,024 TEU ship to arrive in March

Evergreen Marine Corporation has announced that the group's latest newbuild, the "Ever Strong", the seventh in a series of ten 7,024 TEU S-type vessels being built for the company in Japan, took to the water earlier this month for the first time at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries' Kobe shipyard. The Ever Strong is scheduled for delivery in March 2007 when she is expected to enter service on the transpacific southwest (TPS) route that links Southern China, Hong Kong and Taiwan with the West Coast of North America.
A statement from the Evergreen Group said that it is preparing to take delivery of a total of 18 large post-Panamax containerships between 2005 and 2008. The eight 8,063 TEU C-types that make up the order are already in service and the S-type series will complete the current delivery cycle.
The sixth vessel in the series, the Ever Steady, is due for delivery by the end of 2006.
The company added that the S-type vessels incorporate environmentally friendly design features such as double-skinned hulls and fuel oil tanks that have been located in protected areas within the transverse bulkhead spaces to minimise the risk of oil pollution.
