India's JNP celebrates its 23rd anniversary
India's prestigious container port Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNP) at Nhava Sheva, which has sustained its growth in trying times under the leadership of Shri L Radhakrishnan, IAS, JNPT is completing its 23 years on May 26, 2012, Daily Shipping Times reported.
JN Port has shown a tremendous growth margin and record throughput for 2011-12. It handled 65.75 million tonnes of total cargo during the financial year 2011-12, which is an all-time record for JNPT. It handled 4.32 million TEUs of container traffic during the financial year 2011-12 surpassing the previous record of previous year.
JN Port remains largest and the first among all the major ports in India in container handling with the market share of 55.63 %. The proof of the meteoric rise of JNPT, if one is required, is the port's current 26th position amongst worlds top ports.
In fact the Maharashtra Governor inaugurating the new city office of JNP recently expressed confidence that JNPT would shortly rise to become one of the world's top 20 container ports.
This new office is indicative of the way JNP has been growing and is poised to a huge leap forward under the guidance of Chairman Shri L. Radhakrishnan and Deputy Chairman Shri N. N. Kumar and further renewing focus on improving operational efficiency and overall procedures.
