Severnaya Verf launches Stoiky corvette for Defense Ministry
St. Petersburg-based Severnaya Verf Shipyard launched today, May 30, 2012, the third serial corvette Stoiky of 20380 project, being built for the Ministry of Defense of Russia, PortNews correspondent reported from the official ceremony.
In the next six months the warship will be outfitted in a floating dock. In January 2013, Severnaya Verf will commence dockside, shipbuilder’s and state sea trials. The Stoiky is scheduled for delivery to the Customer in November 2013.
The 20380 Project corvette was designed by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau.
Under the existing newbuilding contracts Severnaya Verf is to complete and deliver to the Russian Navy six frigates of Project 22350 (for operations in littoral and offshore areas) and six corvettes (littoral areas) of projects 20380 and 20385.
By the Russian Government’s decision, Severnaya Verf is currently the sole supplier of corvettes of projects 20380/20385 and frigates of Project 22350 for the Russian Navy. The 20385 Project is the evolution of 20380 Project.
The multipurpose Steregushchy class corvette of 20380 project is intended to combat surface ships and submarines, for landing and amphibious operations.
Ship’s main characteristics:
Displacement - about 2 tons, LOA - 105 m, LWL - 90 m, maximum speed - 27 knots, range – 4,000 nm at speed 14 knots, endurance – 15 days, complement - 100 (including helicopter maintenance team).
