An official naming ceremony for the new tanker of Sovcomflot (SCF Group) Nikolay Zuev was held yesterday, May 29, at DSME shipyard near Busan, the Group press release said.
The vessel was built at the shipyard of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering under the contract for a series of tankers for transportation of crude and oil products. The contract was signed in October 2010 between SCF Group and Zvezda-DSME (a JV of United Shipbuilding Corp. and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering).
The vessel complies with all existing international and Russian standards of maritime safety and environmental protection. After commissioning the tanker will start shipping crude oil and heavy oil products in the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea, the Black Sea and in the Baltic. The vessel will be in operation of Novoship.
During the construction of the tanker at DSME shipyard a team of Russian specialists was involved in adoption of modern shipbuilding technology. This experience will allow Russian shipbuilders to construct the hull structures of large vessels at the new shipbuilding facilities on the Russian Far East. In future, Russian plans to build such class tankers at its own shipyards.
The tanker’s main characteristics: length - 249.9 m, beam - 46 m, deadweight - 120.6 tons. The tanker draft - 14.9 m with its increased breadth enable the vessel to carry maximum possible loads while passing the Baltic straits and optimally conform to the maritime transportation of hydrocarbons at the terminals of Primorsk and Ust-Luga.
The tanker is able to transport simultaneously three types of products in 12 cargo tanks including crude oil and heavy oil.
