Funds for new Kaliningrad port may be invested in rail facilities
The funds earmarked for the creation of a new deepwater port in the Kaliningrad region, can be redirected to the development of railway
infrastructure, Deputy Minister of Transport Viktor Olersky said.
"We have not seen so far any investors", the official said during the visit of the IMO head Koji Sekimizu in St. Petersburg, explaining the need for the funds redirection. Viktor Olersky believes that it would be more appropriate to expand the existing port infrastructure on the basis of proximity to the berths of the industrial facilities, which will allow use special economic zone advantage more effectively.
Olersky mentioned Sodruzhestvo Soya assets, which operates deep-water berths and production complex in Kaliningrad.
However, the fate of funds set aside for the port project has not yet been determined.
