Ministry of Transport: Bronka port may optimize traffic flows in St Petersburg
Construction of the Bronka outer harbor could lead to optimization of inbound cargo traffic in St. Petersburg, Deputy Minister of Transport Viktor Olersky said during an official visit of IMO chief in St. Petersburg.
The federal portion of the project has been approved by the Ministry of Economic Development and is now being reviewed at the Ministry of Finance, the official said. The Bronka port should be commissioned in the next 3 or 4 years, Olersky said, and its capacity will be in demand, since the first phase facilities are designed to handle Ro-Ro and heavy-lift cargo.
"In any case, sooner or later this project should have been done," the official said, adding that the federal part of the project (creation of the approach channel) will most likely start in 2013.
The Bronka port project is to be included in the Federal Target Program "Development of Transport System of Russia (2010-2015)".
The Company-Investor Phoenix Chief Operating Officer Alexei Shukletsov said the construction of berths was scheduled for completion by this winter. After that Rosmorport will commence dredging of berths and approach channel.
Private investment in the project is estimated at RUB 43.7 bn and RUB 15.2bn will be allocated in the federal budget. The investor has injected in the project some RUB 5bn so far.
The marine multifunctional complex Bronka (MMPK Bronka) will comprise three specialized facilities: a container terminal encompassing 107 hectares, Ro-Ro terminal of 57 ha and logistics center of 42 ha. Container terminal will feature the 1.175 m-long waterfront (including 5 berths). The waterfront of rolling cargo terminal will be 630 meters (3 berths).
Bronka first phase capacity is projected at 1.45 million TEUs and 260,000 units of Ro-Ro cargoes. The facility’s container throughput is planned to be increased to 1.9 million TEUs. The Bronka Multipurpose Complex will be able to handle Panamax containerships and the ferries of Finnstar class. The first ship call is expected in 2014.
Private investors are expected to inject nearly RUB 43.7 billion in the project. The Russian government set aside RUB 15.2 billion for the project.
The Bronka port will create over 2,300 new jobs at its terminals. Upon completion of the outer harbor facilities annual direct tax payments to the budget of St. Petersburg will be at about RUB 1.7 billion (plus indirect tax – RUB 5.1 bn), the federal budget will get RUB 2.0 billion a year (RUB 5.9bn).
