In the 10-month period of 2006 Ukraine’s railways carried 390.6 million tons of cargo (+5.6%, or +20.7 million tons against year-on-year result) including 327.7 million tons of dispatched cargo (+4.5%, or +14.1 million tons), Ukraine’s State Statistics Committee reports according to RZD-Partner. A year ago, the volume of railway transportation fell by 3.5% (-13.4 million tons), including decrease of dispatched cargo by 2.6% (-8.3 million tons).
A number of key types of cargo demonstrated growth of volume after last year decrease. Coal transportation grew by 1.2% to 81.1 million tons after -6% in 2005); coke (+0.2% to 8.2 million after -22%); ferrous metal (+10.2% to 32.7 million tons after -3.6%). Besides, the result was influenced by a constant growth in transportation of ore cargo (+6.1%, to 57.4 million tons against +2.9% in 2005) and cement (+10.3%, to 8.9 million tons, against +8.8% year-on-year).
Transportation of oil cargo amounted over the reported period to 14.7 million tons (-3.7% or -0.56 million tons against year-on-year result). A year ago this dynamics was at the level of -17.9%.
