LPG tankers for Sovcomflot built at Hyundai Heavy Industries

On November 28, 2006 Hyundai Heavy Industries (Korea) held a ceremony of name-giving for the two LPG tankers SKF Tobolsk and SKF Tomsk ordered by Sovcomflot group of companies, Sovcomflot’s press service reports. Characteristics of the Tobolsk tanker: deadweight – 26.400 tons, length – 174.20 m, breadth – 28.00 m, cargo capacity – 35.000 m3. The vessels are intended for transportation of liquefied petroleum gas and ammonia. Having accepted these two new tankers Sovcomflot enters new segment of market being very perspective for Russia.

 

Hyundai Heavy Industries is the world’s largest shipbuilding corporation covering about 15% of the world shipbuilding market. For 31 the yard has built over 1.100 vessels of different types including about 40 for Sovcomflot.

Sovcomflot OJSC is the largest Russian shipping company. Its fleet consists of 56 vessels with consolidated deadweight of about 4.3 million tons. The company specializes in marine transportation of energy carriers. The fleet includes 45 tankers with a total deadweight of about 4.2 million tons. All the company’s tankers have double hulls. Average age of oil fleet is less than 5 years – one the youngest in the world. In November 2006 the company acquired two LNG tankers operated at long-term charter by the first-class charterers, thus entering the market of LNG transportation.
