LPG tanker involved in Singapore collision chartered by Shell
The South Korean-registered LPG tanker DL Salvia that was involved in a collision off Singapore's Jurong island on Sunday, spilling bunker fuel, was on time charter to Shell, a company spokeswoman said Tuesday, Platts reports.
The 4,998 dwt LPG carrier DL Salvia, managed by South Korea's DL Shipping Co. Ltd., and a Hong Kong-registered bulk carrier, Sunny Horizon, collided at the Temasek Fairway, about 700 meters east of Sultan Shoal.
It was carrying pressurized LPG at the time, said its shipping agent, who, however, declined to reveal the cargo volume.
"No injuries were sustained, no LPG was spilled and there was no loss of cargo containment. The DL Salvia is safely anchored," the Shell spokeswoman said in response to Platts' queries.
"However, a quantity of fuel oil was spilled. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore is leading the response, the spill has been contained and clean-up activities are in progress," she said, adding that Shell was monitoring the situation.
The MPA said Monday the incident breached the bunker tank of the DL Salvia spilling a little less than 60 mt of bunker fuel.
"The channels and fairways in the port were not affected during the incident and remained open for vessel movement. Both vessels were moved safely to West Jurong Anchorage," an MPA spokeswoman said. "At the time of the incident, the sea was calm and conditions were slightly hazy."
As a precautionary measure, an oil boom has been deployed around the vessel and bio-degradable oil dispersants were used break up the oil slick, the MPA said. Nine craft and more than 46 personnel have been deployed as part of the containment and clean up efforts.
"Some patches of treated oil were sighted today at the reclamation sites at the western part of Jurong Island and Tuas View Extension, and at a rock bund at Sultan Shoal," MPA said Monday.
