Container turnover between Hamburg and Saint Petersburg up 41% in 10M06

Container turnover between Hamburg and Saint Petersburg totaled 476 thou TEU in January-October 2006 (+41% against year-on-year result), the press center of Hamburg port reports according to RZD-Partner. First container flows lead Saint Petersburg and Russia to the third place among major partners of Hamburg in terms of container transportation. In the 10-month period, Russia (Saint Petersburg) was ahead of Finland with China and Singapore at the first and the second palaces. Total container turnover of Hamburg amounted to 7.3 million TEU in January-October 2006 (+9.2% against year-on-year result).

A record level of reloaded containers was registered in October 2006– 833 216 TEU. These results will enable Hamburg to reach the level of 9 million TEU in 2006 and to come closer to its major rival – port of Rotterdam, where container volume grew about 3% over the same period.
