Estonian Railway’s transit of goods down 15% in Jan 09
During the first month of the year the transit of goods on Estonian Railway’s infrastructure decreased by 15 pct compad to last year.
January’s quantity of goods continued to decrease notably. Estonian Railway reported that altogether 2,23 million tons of goods were transported on the railway in January.
From the cargo entrepreneurs, the biggest loser was EVR Cargo, an affiliated company of Estonian Railway, whose cargos were less than a million tons in January and, compared to the year before, had decreased by 27 pct.
EVR Cargo’s percentage from the total haulage was 43,3 pct. Contract haulage company E.R.S. AS percentage in January was 25,7 pct and OÜ Westgate Transport’s percentage was 32 pct.
Mostly cured oil and petroleum products were transported; altogether 1,62 million tons on Estonian Railway infrastructure. Within a year the given group of product’s quantity of haulage has dropped by 7,4 pct. The second largest product group was domestically transported oil shale with 0,26 million tons, which compared to January last year was 41 pct less. The rest of the product groups were below 100 000 tons.
The quantity of container transport in January was 1483 TEUs (twenty feet equivalent unit) which was 12 pct less than last year.
January’s cargo haulage decreased in all cargo types. 1,81 million tons of goods were transported in transit traffic which is over 4 pct less. 0.31 million tons of domestic cargo was 44 pct smaller than last year. Export and import quantities in January were below 100 000 tons and both decreased by 35 pct, Baltic Business News reports according to RZD-Partner.
