Container throughput of National Container Company down 34% to 178,665 TEU in Jan-Feb 09

In January-February 2009, the terminals of National Container Company (NCC) handled 178,665 TEU (-34%, year-on-year), the company reports. At the same time the share of NCC in total container throughput of Russian ports increased by 40% in January 2009.

In the 2-month period, container throughput of First Container Terminal (FCT, St. Petersburg) amounted to 124,608 TEU (-24.7% against Jan-Feb 2008). In February the terminal handled 61,301 TEU (-27.3%, year-on-year) including 32,773 TEU of export containers and 28,528 TEU of import containers. In February, the terminal’s turnover of refrigerated containers totaled 6,626 TEU (-33.6%). In February FCT handled 57 vessels with average turnover of 1,075 TEU per vessel.

Container throughput of Nodal Transporting and Forwarding Company of Novorossiysk (NUTEP, Novorossiysk) in January-February 2009 totaled 20,909 TEU (-12%). In February the terminal handled 9,503 TEU (-22%) including 5,240 TEU of export containers and 4,263 TEU of import containers. Loaded/empty containers ratio was 55% against 45% respectively. In February the terminal handled 12 vessels with average turnover of 792 TEU per vessel.

In January-February 2009 Ukrtranscontainer (Ukraine) handled 33,148 TEU (-60%). In February the terminal handled 16 275 TEU (-64%) including 11,094 TEU of export containers and 5,181 TEU of import containers. Loaded/empty containers ratio was 49% against 51% respectively.

- Nodal Transporting and Forwarding Company of Novorossiysk (NUTEP, port of Novorossiysk, current capacity of 150 thou TEU with a perspective expansion to 550 thou TEU); 

- Iljichevsk container terminal (Ukraine, current capacity of 850 thou TEU with a perspective expansion to 4 million TEU);
