Throughput of Helsinki port down 25% to 3.229 ml t in Jan-Apr 09

In January-April 2009, the port of Helsinki fell by 25%, year-on-year, to 3.229 mln t, the port’s administration reports. According to the source, transshipment of general cargo fell by 29%, year-on-year, to 2.760 million tonnes including 1.347 million tonnes of export (-31%) and 1.413 million tonnes of import cargo (-27%). Turnover of dry bulk increased by 11% to 469,000 tonnes.
 
In the reported period, transshipment of containers fell by 20% to 117,481 TEU, ro-ro cargo - by 22% to 140,721 units.

In 2008, the port of Helsinki handled 11.856 million tonnes of cargo.
