Throughput of Iljichevsk Commercial Seaport down 9.4% to 7.2 mln t in Jan-May 09

In January-May 2009, Iljichevsk Commercial Seaport (Ukraine) handled 7.145 million tonnes (-9.4%, year-on-year), the company reports. In May the company handled 1.485 million tonnes (-2.9%, year-on-year).

In May transshipment of general cargo fell by 41.5%, year-on-year, transshipment of dry bulk increased by 47.7%, liquid bulk cargo – by 188.7%.

The highest growth was demonstrated in the sector of vegetable oil transshipment (+272.2 %), oil (+95.0%), bulk grain (+142.4 %), bulk ore (+26.7%) while transshipment of automotive equipment fell by 91.7%. Container throughput decreased by 70.7%.

The port of Illichivsk is situated on the North coast of the Black Sea. The port links Ukraine with almost 100 countries. The port has facilities capable of handling over 30 million tonnes of cargoes annually; modern berths with total quay line of 6,000 m; facilities which can provide simultaneous storage of 1,5 million tonnes of cargo. Total open storage area –575,000 sq. m; warehouse area – 28,000 sq. m. Multimodal Complex of the port has independent entrances for rail wagons and motor transport.  The port provides handling and storage of a wide range of foreign trade cargo. It accepts vessels of all flags and types with maximal draught of up to 13 meters and deadweight of up to 100,000 tonnes. Round-the-year navigation and icebreaking pilotage is available in the port. In 2008, the port handled 18.9 million tonnes.
