In January-May 2009, port Kavkaz handled 2.728 million tonnes of cargo (+18.23%, year-on-year), PortNews IAA learnt from Taman branch of RosMorPort FSUE. In the reported period, transshipment of import cargo fell by 28.45% to 315,530 tonnes. In the 5-month period the port handled 848 vessels (+4.95%, year-on-year).
Port Kavkaz is situated at the border of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov at Kerch Strait from the side of Russia. The port is ice-free, so it is able to handle both river vessels (draft of up to 4.5 meters) and sea vessels (off-harbor handling of vessels with a draft of up to 11 meters). The port handles loose cargo, as well as general cargo, timber and containers.
