London-listed vessel owner Goldenport nets $11m gain from panamax sale

Goldenport Holdings, the London-listed dry bulk and container vessel owner, is set to book an $11m profit on the sale of its sole panamax bulker.
The Paris Dragnis-led company said the 11 year-old Gianni D. was sold to unaffiliated third party buyers for $20m and should be delivered charter free by mid-August.
According to Athens-based Goldenport, the 69,100 dwt vessel is “essentially debt free” and the deal proceeds will be used to bolster an “already strong balance sheet”.
"Within the context of our continued fleet renewal, we are pleased to take advantage of the recent rebound in the dry cargo market and realise an attractive profit,” said Capt Dragnis.
"Our strong forward time charter coverage in both segments in which we operate, our newbuilding program and our strong balance sheet, enable us to feel confident about the future growth prospects of our business,” he added.
In its dry bulk division, the sale will leave Goldenport’s fleet comprising one capesize and 12 supramaxes, of which seven are newbuildings for delivery up to 2011.
Goldenport said it expects a book profit of $ 11.1m from the sale, after accounting for brokerage commission and the unamortized balance of dry-docking.
