TransContainer and VMZ have concluded a memorandum for Nord Stream supplies

OAO TransContainer (RZD’s affiliated company) and The Vyksa Steel Works (VMZ), a division of the United Metallurgical Company in the Nizhniy Novgorod Region (Volga area), have signed an agreement to transport cargo for the Nord Stream project by rail.

The memorandum was signed during the Regional Container Transport Business-Forum in Nizhni Novgorod on Wednesday.

The Director of OAO TransContainer branch, Anatoly Karinsky, informed journalists that the memorandum sets out the parameters of cooperation between the carrier and the plant for the transport of pipes for the Nord Stream project.

He said that VMZ guarantees pipes in the required quantities for transportation by rail for Nord Stream, and “TransContainer” would provide flat wagons equipped to “Gazprom”’s requirements.

Mr A.Karinsky mentioned that 700 wagons will be prepared to deliver VMZ’s pipes in 10 to 15 flat wagons per week.

He said that currently 14 operators are engaged in sending VMZ’s production by rail and that 99 % of the freight traffic carried through the Murom Department of Gorky Railway (RZD’s branch) is produced by OAO TransContainer. Since March 2009 “Transcontainer” has used about 200 wagons manufactured by VMZ.

During the Business-Forum “TransContainer” has also signed a memorandum of cooperation with OAO “Kuibyshevazot”.

VMZ is the leading Russian manufacturer of large diameter pipes for main pipelines and also manufactures railway wheels.
