Eugenijus Gentvilas, newly elected CEO of Klaipeda State Seaport Authority (KVJUD), urges to attract private investments for the development of the port's infrastructure, writes BNS.
"We need a decision on partnership with private capital urgently, we have to give a chance for the port users to make investments themselves offering them land lease privileges," Gentvilas said in an interview to the Verslo Zinios business daily.
Such partnership would also prompt the users to act in a more responsible way, he added.
"We have to use this moment, when the construction prices have declined, if we invest less than before, we will lose the best moment. I am afraid that our competitors will find resources for that," Gentvilas said.
Cooperation with port companies was also necessary for attracting the European Union (EU) funds to the port, he added.
