Odense Steel Shipyard has delivered the first of six ro-ros for the British investment company Epic Shipping of London. The ship, hull no 217, sails under the name of the Maas Viking for a long-term timecharter to the A P Møller-Mærsk-owned Norfolk Line. The Mass Viking now sails between Rotterdam and the terminal at North Killingholme on the Humber River estuary. The ro-ro vessel is built under license from Flensburger Schiffsbau and is of the same type as the DFDS “Flowerclass” units, with 3,800 lane metres on four decks. The ship is 199 metres in length and 26.5 metres in beam. It is powered by a Caterpillar (MaK) engine type 9M43 developing 7,150 kW to a service speed of 21.5 knots.
The Maas Viking will be followed by the Humber Viking in August.
