RZD loading down 24.9% to 428 mln t in Jan-May 09

In January-May 2009, loading at Russian railways fell by 24.9%, year-on-year, to 428.3 mln t, press center of Russian Railways OJSC reports. In May, loading fell by 20.3%, year-on-year, to 91.5 million tonnes.

In the 5-month period, Russian Railways carried 107 million tonnes of coal (-17%), 3.4 million tonnes of coke (-38.3%), 94.9 million tonnes of crude and oil products (-3.6%), over 36.2 million tonnes of iron and manganese ore (-21.7%), 24.6 million tonnes of ferrous metal (-33.5%), 15.9 million tonnes of chemical and mineral fertilizers (-19.5%), 9.9 million tonnes of grain and milling industry goods (+17.7%), 46.3 million tonnes of construction materials (-45.3%).

In May loading of coal fell by 9.9%, coke - на by 31.8%, iron and manganese ore – by 14.4%, ferrous metal – by 33.8%, chemical and mineral fertilizers – by 15.9%, construction materials – by 37.8%, while loading of crude and oil products increased by 2.9%, grain and milling industry goods  – by 9.1%.

The company’s cargo turnover fell by 16.5% to 862.7 bln t-km in January-May 2009 and by 12.8% to 182.8 bln t-km in May 09.
