The report of Xinhua News Agency said it is not likely for the port to see recovery in the near future.
Meanwhile, the port's cargo throughput dropped 19.6 per cent to 55.6 million tonnes. The decrease was 0.19 per cent, slightly narrower than in the first quarter. Foreign trade cargo fell 23.1 per cent to 40.5 million tonnes.
In April, Shenzhen's container throughput plunged 24.9 per cent year on year to 1.3 million TEU. Cargo throughput fell 19.3 per cent to 14.9 million tonnes.
In March, the port recorded a surge of 41.3 per cent over February in container volume. But the surge was an illusion because the February throughput was the port's lowest in five years. On the other hand, the market rumour of freight rate hike in March, which stimulated export also contributed to the surge. In comparison, April's box volume fell 3.19 over March
The Yantian terminal's volume in the first four months dropped 10.4 per cent to 2.4 million TEU, wider than the decrease of 8.7 per cent in the first quarter. Its percentage in Shenzhen Port's total rose six per cent year on year to 46.5 per cent, but 0.71 per cent less than in the first quarter.
The Shekou terminal handled 1.3 million TEU in the first four months, down 29.7 per cent year on year. In April, its volume fell 27.8 per cent year on year and 1.2 per cent over March to 359,000 TEU.
The Chiwan terminal's container throughput from January to April fell 31.1 per cent to 1.4 million TEU. The monthly volume in April dropped 34.8 per cent year on year and 0.72 per cent month on month to 362,000 TEU.
Dachan Bay Phase 1 Terminal's throughput in the first four months rocketed 161.6 per cent year on year to 32,600 TEU, but fell 26.8 per cent over March.
Shenzhen's laden container in the first four months totalled to 3.4 million TEU, down 24.5 per cent, taking up 65.3 per cent of Shenzhen's total. Empty boxes fell 16.7 per cent.
Yantian International Container Terminals' empty box volume rose slightly by 0.24 per cent. The terminal's empty box volume accounted for 53.2 per cent of Shenzhen's empty box total while the laden containers it handled took up 43 per cent off Shenzhen's laden box total.
