BG Group sends first LNG cargo to Chile

Chile is set to receive its first ever cargo of liquefied natural gas at the end of June after a BG Group (BG.L) cargo set sail from Trinidad for the Quintero terminal on Monday.
BG's 145,000-cubic-meter Methane Jane Elizabeth LNG tanker is expected to arrive at its destination on June 28, according to AISLive ship tracking data on Reuters.
"The commissioning cargo is on its way and it left Point Fortin (Trinidad) on Monday," said BG spokesman Neil Burrows on Tuesday.
BG has a 40 percent stake in the terminal and is contracted to supply up to 1.7 million tonnes per year for 21 years to the terminal.
The Quintero terminal will have the capacity to send out 2.5 million tonnes per year by 2010, but is being started up in phases, with a lesser import capacity in 2009.
