In January-May 2009, Vostochny port handled 7,430,800 tonnes of cargo (-15.5%, year-on-year), the port’s administration states. According to the source, transshipment of dry cargo fell by 17% to 7,212,800 tonnes including 6,510,500 tonnes of dry loose and bulk cargo (-8.1%). Transshipment of coal and coke fell by 7.1% to 6,174,200, mineral fertilizers – by 22.8% to 336,300 tonnes. Turnover of timber fell over 9 times to 6,800 tonnes, general cargo – 2.27 times to 37,800 tonnes including 32,100 tonnes of scrap metal (down over 2 times).
Transshipment of oil products increased over 2-fold to 221,000 tonnes. The port’s container throughput fell 2.5 times to 66,748 TEU.
Throughput of the port’s largest stevedoring company Vostochny Port LLC fell 10% to 5,730,800 tonnes.
Vostochny port is the deepest Far-Eastern port of Russia. It is located in the southern part of the Primorsky Krai on the shore of the Sea of Japan within 20 kilometers from Nakhodka – end point of Trans-Siberian Line. The port has year round navigation. The port comprises 15 cargo berths, a number of auxiliary berths and a maintenance pier. Total length of the berthing line is about 4 kilometers. These berths are part of terminals used for transshipment of coal, containers, fertilizers, methanol, timber, bulk and general cargo.
