Bergen Group gets $287 mln order for oilfield ship

Norwegian shipbuilder Bergen Group has won a preliminary order worth around $287 million from Germany's SAL Shipping for construction of a oilfield services vessel, the company said on Wednesday.
"The vessel is to be delivered in April 2012 and the contract value is approximately 1.8 billion crowns," Bergen Group said in a statement, adding the deal is subject to board approvals.
SAL Shipping is 50 percent owned by Japanese shipping firm Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd , and has a fleet of large heavy lift vessels.
The new vessel will be suitable for deep water operations on oil and gas fields worldwide, Bergen Group said.
It will be outfitted for flexible pipe and umbilical laying and carry a 600 tonne offshore crane to transport large structures and place them on the seabed, it said.
