The Persis schooner flying the Panamanian flag has been detained for poaching by Russian border guards in the Tatar Strait (north of the Sea of Japan (East Sea). They found on the vessel about 25 tonnes of crab. Documents allowing the crab catch caused the border guards’ suspicion. The Persis that was detained on June 11 was taken to Nevelsk port on Monday for further investigation, the public relations group of the Sakhalin coast guard department of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) reported according to Itar-Tass.
The schooner’s crew consists of Russian and Indonesian citizens. In order to detain the Persis vessel the border guards had to engage an FSB plane. The poacher vessel was stopped for inspection in the RF exclusive economic zone.
