Cosco Pacific global terminal volume down 8.3pc in May

Global throughput for Cosco Pacific fell 8.3 per cent year on year in May to 3.6 million TEU from 3.9 million in May 2008..
Cosco Pacific leases containers and runs or partially owns 20 terminals worldwide, of which 17 are in China. Shortfalls were experienced in Shanghai, which fell 25 per cent to 240,000 TEU and Guangzhou, which fell 17 per cent to 170,000 TEU.
Cosco's foreign terminals fared no better with the Cosco-PSA operation in Singapore suffering a 49 per cent decline to 58,100 TEU while Antwerp fell 54 per cent to 50,300 TEU.
What brightness there was came from terminals in Qingdao, which was up 12.1 per cent to 99,900 TEU, in Tianjin, up 1.7 per cent to 176,200 TEU and in Yingkou, up 51.8 per cent to 76,300 TEU.
