Implementation of the project on construction of a new shipbuilding complex at Kotlin island (Kronshtadt) will require RUR 65 bln of investments to be made during 4-6 years while the alternative project for expansion and upgrading of Admiralty Shipyards (St. Petersburg) will cost $600 mln. As PortNews IAA learnt from Vladimir Aleksandrov, Director General of Admiralty Shipyards, the first project envisages the construction of a complex to build large-capacity vessels (including those with the capacity exceeding 100,000tonnes) with participation of foreign capital. In particular, the United Shipbuilding Corpration (OSK) is negotiating with Samsung. Two large dry docks (500x85 m) are to be built for construction of about 15 large-capacity vessels per year.
The second project implies upgrading of the facilities of Admiralty Shipyards at the existing ground for annual construction of 5-6 large-capacity vessels.
«As of today the territory is occupied by an industry ground till 2024. We are negotiating with the city. Some experts shipbuilding think should be out of St. Petersburg center. It is probably correct as we handle thousands of tonnes of steel and other materials some 2.5 kilometers from the Palace squire. It seems to be not the best option as it is quite a dangerous production. So one of the real alternatives is to build a shipyard at Koltin island. Yesterday meeting of OSK representatives and Samsung was dedicated to cooperation and we are to continue today. We are either to Наверное, это так capital. Experts say the new shipyard will cost RUR 65 bln and the first project will require $600 mln, we estimate. The construction of the complex will take 4 to 6 years. The same time is needed for modernization of Admiralty Shipyards. By the end of the year we hope to know which is to be the first – Petersburg, Severodvinsk or the Far East. Another important project in St. Petersburg is the construction of a shipyard in Primorsk by shareholders of Vyborg shipyard. Apart from this, there are certain intentions of the United Industrial Corporation (OPK). So there are three large projects to be implemented in our region. It is too much for our builders and for our financial resources as all the projects are to be financed by VTB and similar structures. We hope that the priorities are to be determined by the year end – which project is to be the first,” Vladimir Aleksandrov says.
