Transshipment of Russian heavy fuel oil via Estonian ports to cease in a year – Sergei Ivanov

Transshipment of Russian heavy fuel oil via Estonian ports to cease in a year, PortNews IAA reporter cites Vice-PM of RF Government Sergei Ivanov as telling journalists during his visit to the port of Ust-Luga in the Leningrad region. According to Ivanov, the first phase of the heavy fuel terminal is to be put into operation icebreaker Ust-Luga by the end of 2009 following which transshipment of heavy fuel oil via Estonian ports will start to decrease.

«So far Russia had no ports to handle heavy fuel oil and the first tankers with this product will go via Ust-Luga. It means that we will start to reduce railway transportation of our heavy fuel oil to Estonia. In a year we will completely stop its delivery to Estonian ports,» Ivanov said.

According to Vice-PM, 87% of Russian export cargo is being handled in Russia today with foreign ports accounting for 13% while in late 90-ies foreign ports transshipped 75% of Russian export cargo.
