Throughput of port Kaliningrad down 26.8% to 5.06 mln t in Jan-May 09

In January-May 2009, the port of Kaliningrad handled 5.061 million tonnes of cargo (-26.8%, year-on-year), PortNews IAA learnt from the port Administration. In the reported period, transshipment of liquid bulk cargo fell by 19.8% to 2.91 million tonnes. Transshipment of crude was up 36.1%, oil products – down 28% to 2.285 mln t.

In the 5-month period the port handled 1 million tonnes of dry bulk (-38.7%) including 124,800 tonnes of coal and coke (-81.2%), 135,400 tonnes of mineral fertilizers (-41.3%). Transshipment of grain and metal scrap fell to 22,100 tonnes and 34,100 tonnes respectively while transshipment of other dry bulk increased by 20.8% to 693,500 tonnes.

Transshipment of general cargo fell by 51.7% to 752,100 tonnes including 441,300 tonnes of metal (-46.4%) and 28,558 TEU of containerized cargo (-71.7%).

In the reported period the port handled 6,604 units of ro-ro cargo (up 2-fold).

The number of calls fell by 34.9% to 904 vessels.

In 2008 port Kaliningrad handled 15,379,700 tonnes of cargo with the number of calls amounting to 2,958 vessels.
