In the first half of 2009, cargo transportation via Russian railway network reduced by 22.7%, RZD-Partner cites Vladimir Yakunin, President of OAO RZD, as saying at the conference “Business Russia”, held today in Moscow.
“The figure speaks for itself”, he said, mentioning that the forecast for 2009 envisages a 19% decline in cargo transportation volume in 2009.
“Loading of only two cargoes is growing – export coal and export oil products,” stated Mr Yakunin.
In H1 of 2009, passenger transportation by railway fell by 12% (long-distance transportation reduced by 10%, and suburban – by 14%).
