Admiralty Shipyards has laid down a scientific research vessel for Russian Antarctic expedition, PortNews IAA reporter tells. The vessel delivery is scheduled for September 2011.
The contract for construction of the vessel was signed between the shipyard and Russian Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring Agency (RosGidroMet) in December 2008. The vessel is to be operated by Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute of RosGidroMet. It is to become a new flagship of scientific research fleet having replaced the Akademik Fedorov.
