Admiralty Shipyards lay down scientific research vessel for RosGidroMet

Admiralty Shipyards has laid down a scientific research vessel for Russian Antarctic expedition, PortNews IAA reporter tells. The vessel delivery is scheduled for September 2011.

The contract for construction of the vessel was signed between the shipyard and Russian Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring Agency (RosGidroMet) in December 2008. The vessel is to be operated by Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute of RosGidroMet. It is to become a new flagship of scientific research fleet having replaced the Akademik Fedorov.

 

The vessel has been designed by the Central Design Bureau BaltSudoProekt (branch of Krylov Shipbuilding Research Institute). It is to provide comfortable working environment where outside temperature is below 40ºC.

Admiralty Shipyards OJSC is the oldest Russia’s shipyard founded by Peter I on November 5, 1704. Modern Shipyards specialize in design, production and modernization of civil and naval vessels of various types.
